WS_FTP Tutorial Has Been Updated

I have updated the WS_FTP tutorial to reflect the new hosting details. You can feel free to start using your new accounts immediately. You will find a link to the updated WS_FTP tutorial in the hosting support forum or go directly to the Uploading Web Sites Using WS_FTP LE tutorial.

I also posted an abbreviated version of the WS_FTP tutorial. This version does not include detailed information on creating your HTML index page. Students who have already used WS_FTP should use this version.

I am working on updating the Dreamweaver FTP information and I hope to have that done today. For those of you who are working with Dreamweaver you can still start using your account, just substitute the f2o connection details with your robinshosting.com connection information in your welcome email. David already has a site running, take a look at David’s Experiments in CSS. Way to go David!

Have you started reading the CPanel tutorial yet? There are so many cool things that you can do with your new account!

I won’t be in class today; I am taking a comp day for some of the extra hours I worked during the winter break.

SQL and f2o

For students who are working with PHP/MySQL in Dreamweaver I have a tutorial forimporting SQL tables into f2o using phpMyAdmin that you may find helpful.

We have encountered some issues trying to import SQL files (text files with the SQL statements) into f2o with phpMyAdmin. I have added notes on how to correct this issue to the tutorial and you can find the import notes here. Even if you don’t have problems “importing” the SQL files, you may find this tutorial helpful if you are beginning tutorial 9 of the Dreamweaver book.

The WAMPServer Installation tutorial also has a BRIEF introduction to working with phpMyAdmin.

Here are a couple more tutorials/resources on working with phpMyAdmin/MySQL:

  1. phpMyAdmin Tutorial
  2. Learning SQL Using phpMyAdmin - there are a lot of PHP/MySQL resources on this site.
  3. Margie also found the book Mastering phpMyAdmin for Effective MySQL Management on Amazon. I have not read it, but it looks like a good one. My only hesitation is that the phpMyAdmin interface changes, so it could become outdated. But then again, once you learn the basics you should be able to work with an updated version without too many issues. I went ahead and ordered the book so we would have a class copy. :)

On another note: Dan at f2o contacted me to let me know that your accounts have been approved. Start uploading! I have instructions for uploading with WS_FTP and Dreamweaver.
