Tons of Activity Around the Net

Evolt is finally back online with version 3.0; there haven’t been any major updates for six months. The site has a new look and new articles. Where / What Vision Systems and Visual Design, is not a new article, but with the new design of Evolt I just noticed it and it’s worth a read.

I am saddened by Tommy Olsson’s decision to close the Autistic Cuckoo, one of the best development blogs on the Internet. He has written many articles that made a lot of things “click” for me and students in this class. For new students, I hope that you will take the time to visit the Autistic Cuckoo, read the archives, and print the excellent articles. You’ll find as you progress through this course (especially the CSS unit), Tommy’s insights will make some complicated concepts click for you too. Here are a few of the articles I would be sure to read:

Inheritance vs Cascade
Relatively Absolute
Fixed vs Liquid vs Elastic
Float Layouts
Block vs. Inline - a three part series

Of course these are just a few of the articles at Autistic Cuckoo worth reading. Check the web archives for further reading.

Yesterday, was it yesterday? I mentioned the release of Studio 8 mid September. SolarDreamStudios has a discussion going about some of the new Dreamweaver and Fireworks features.

WebCredible is offering Ten More CSS Tricks You May Not Know, a follow-up article to the excellent Ten CSS tricks you may not know. I added this article to my CSS binder!

Yesterday I mentioned the CSS Zen Garden which is an educational and inspirational site that uses pure CSS designs. I would also recommend visiting CSS Beauty, StyleGala, CSS Drive, and CSS Vault to see amazing examples of excellence in CSS design. What’s your favorite CSS showcase site?

A List Apart has a new design and new articles; High-Resolution Image Printing is a useful CSS technique for printing high-resolution logos from web pages.
