More Firefox Extensions
We have to update our classroom version of Firefox in order to use the Firefox Extension Center. Unfortunately, this is something that I must do on all of the machines or deploy a new image. Please do not try to download and intall the latest version of Firefox. I am working on creating a new image, but for the time being I wanted to give you some Firefox extensions that you can install without the upgrade.
CSE Validator just came out with a new free validator extension for Firefox. You can download this tool here. After installing the extension, click View > Page Source to run it. This extension just came out today!
Measure It allows you to measure objects (images, divs, etc.) on a page. Very cool! Kevin A. Freitas also developed LinkChecker, an extension for checking links on a web page. After running the link checker, links on the page will appear with the following color coding:
red – broken links
yellow – forwarded, forbidden links
green – good links
gray – skipped links
Small Screen Viewer will allow you to see what your web page will look on a cell phone.
Customize Google will further enhance Google’s great features. This extension will allow you to perform your search in other search engines if you can’t find what you’re looking for, remove ads, and filters “spammy” sites from your search results.
Web Developer Toolbar and Aardvark. I mentioned both of these tools in yesterday’s post.
Check the Extension Room for links to all kinds of great Firefox extensions. You should be able to install most of the extensions listed via the developer’s home page link.

According to a May article in WebSideStory, Firefox has reached almost 7 percent usage share in the U.S.. They report that Germany, where people are more security conscious, the share is 22 percent.
Firefox was publically released last November, and has been steadily taking market share from Internet Explorer ever since.
