What to do?

I’m very torn right now. My first web site, Robin’s Paint Shop Pro Resources @ putertutor.net has fallen into a state of disrepair. The content is dated, links are broken, and the design needs a major overhaul. Over the last couple of months I’ve toyed with the idea of updating and overhauling, but I haven’t really had the time or the desire.

Since I’m no longer offering Paint Shop in my class, there hasn’t been a pressing need to update the site. I don’t use Paint Shop as my primary graphic application and most new content I develop is hosted on tinkertech.net or this blog. When someone posted in my guestbook the other day that I needed new content and to fix the broken links, I realized that I had to make a decision about what to do with the site.

I have decided to close putertutor.net as it exists now. My intention is to point the domain name to this blog until I decide what I want to do with the domain. I will add a Paint Shop Pro category to this blog and add a little fresh content which I am working on now, but I just don’t have the time or desire to maintain a site devoted to PSP anymore.

The tutorials that I have written for Paint Shop and other subjects that are still useful will be moved to tinkertech.net. I plan to shut down the site within the next few days, but please watch this site for updates. New PSP content will be posted in the Paint Shop Pro category.

Thanks for your support over the last eight years, it has been fun!

I have always found the manuals of the various editions of PSP that I have purchased over the years, are much too coplicated when sorting out a problem.
This is where your site has helped.
    Thank you very much.

  2. Robin Says:

Thank you Norman. I am very sad about closing the site, but I just can’t maintain the vast amount of links anymore. I don’t think it’s fair to the visitors to have a site that has so many broken links and no fresh content. I plan to update and move my own Paint Shop Pro tutorials to http://www.tinkertech.net

I will also periodically add resources for Paint Shop Pro to this blog. I know it’s very popular and I want to continue to provide resources for the program, but I need to do it on a smaller scale. I am working on some “fresh” resources now.

I think by giving up the link maintenance I will be more inclined to write quality tutorials for the program.

    Again, thanks for your support!

    Dear Robin,

Thank you so much for all the years you’ve offered great tutorial listings! I’ve been running a graphics group for PSPers for over six years now and still share the links you offer here. Although PSP is no longer my main graphic program of use either, and I have less time to update my group with new tutorials, I still try to offer them the best I can find and the PuterTutor was always that.

Best wishes and success to you, Robin.

    Sincerely,
    FlyByNight

I’m sorry to learn your site on PSP is being closed. It was a significant and authoritative source which helped me a great deal with PSP and BladePro. Thank you very much.

Keep up the good work and good luck in your new endeavors,

    André B.

I’m so sorry to hear this. This is one of the first places I come to whenever I need a little brush-up on technique. It was also one of the first places I discovered when I first got PSP. Thanks for everything, best to you!

Thank you for all your resources, Robin. I’m glad you will be reposting some of your tips. I have found them immensely helpful.

I don’t know how you find time and energy to keep all these helpful and interesting sites going.

BTW – Your first commenter, Norman Overington, has some interesting free and shareware Unicode fonts on his family site, including some that support the Welsh language. (This perhaps useful to Patagonians?)

Robin, I have always found so much useful information on your site! Sorry to see you closing it, but I do understand. I am really glad to know you will be reposting some of the information. I thought your site was really one of the best in terms of the resources you made available.

    Hi Robin:
I came over from San Mateo a couple of years ago to monitor one of your classes. I was so impressed with your knowledge and teaching ability but it was to far to travel to enroll in your class. But I just wanted to comment about your decision. I detect a note of sad frustration on your decision. I say don’t even give it one second of consideration. My analogy would be to consider watching one of those tall skyscrapers being built. The first thing you see are these tall funny looking cranes right in the middle of the site. That crane is the fulcrum point of everything that will be created. After much time, the skyscraper stands majestically to perform its function and they remove the crane. When persons look at the skyscraper they don’t see the crane, just the results of it. The crane is now the only thing that knows what it did. The crane has left its mark and has a feeling if it were human of the great accomplishment it had experienced. By reading some of these comments there are still some of us who knows who built the skyscraper.

Go build another skyscraper so we can watch. You can lead us in a new direction.

Oh man! I am so sad! I loved your site and thought your tutorials were so awesome. I know I have spent so much time just going through your site over the last couple of years and I used it and directed others to it almost religiously. If anyone ever asked me a question about PSP I sent them to your site. *L* I hate to complain but I am seriously going to miss it! I don’t know where I am going to go now or what I am going to do without it. I guess I should have appreciated it more. *L* Seriously THANK YOU for the time that I have spent at your site learning. You have no idea what an impact your site has had on me and I just never even thought it might dissappear. I hope your future projects are wonderful successes but don’t ever think for a second that this one wasn’t worthwhile. I loved it even if there was a broken link here or there. I hope I haven’t made you feel too guilty. *L*

I am very sorry to see you are discontinuing your wonderful work with PSP. When a “PRO” like yourself turns to another graphics application maybe it’s time for Corel to re-think their position in the graphics community. I have learned much from you and have enjoyed working with all the Tuts. Since I taught myself HTML from Elizabeth Castros’ book “HTML for the world wide web, more than 6 years ago,I have had a great experience making my own Web page(at the encourgment of my Son who is an IT Speciaist). Lately I have let the page slip due to other time commitments. I look forward to your newer versions of PSP9 Tuts. I shall keep checking back.

HI Robyn, I have been a devoted fan of your site. You did such a terrific job in teaching me the basics of PSP when I was scared stiff of this program.
I locked in today to find yur tutorial on image slicing, since I lost it somewhere. Is there anywhere where I can find it, or will you make it available again? Thank you so much for your wonderful work and the way you have taught your lessons. it was brilliant. Please don’t forget about us devoted fans, okay? :-) ))) Take care. – Maggie
