I’m Back!

I have made a change to the blog archives. It is common for blogs to only display “excerpts” of posts in the archives. In order to see the entire post you have to click the post title. I think this has been a bit confusing for new bloggers who use this site. Now when you use one of the category or month archive links to the right to navigate the site you will see the “entire post” instead of just an “excerpt” of the post. Hopefully this will make it a little easier to find my old posts.

For those of you who are using WordPress, you can change the default archive display behavior in the WordPress Theme Editor (Presentation > Theme Editor). The Archive Template page controls the way that your posts display in the archives. If you scroll through the PHP code and look for the line that includes the_excerpt() the word excerpt should be changed to content, so it looks like this:

You will have to have change the file permissions on the archive.php to 0777 (write) in order to update this file using the Theme Editor. I have outlined how to do this on the WordPress tutorial.

Well, I had to share the Color Coordinator with you all. It’s coined to be the “hottest color wheel on the web”. Is it the hottest? I’ll let you decide.

I have discussed the power of RSS in class on numerous occasions. In case you’re still not convinced, here’s an article on the 15 things you can do with RSS.

Here is a new search engine for you. Grokker which is powered by Yahoo. Grokker allows you to search the web via a visual map which you can use to zoom in and explore the contents of a particular topic. Try taking the tour of Grokker before you begin searching with this interesting search engine.

Digital Web Magazine has a new article titled CSS 102 on borders and backgrounds. This is a follow-up article to CSS 101 which discusses typography and white space.

Designline – A Design Timeline is a great visual display of the XHTML/CSS development process. It’s an animated gif that contains screen captures of the building process of a web site with XHTML and CSS.

    Welcome home Robin –

The color coordinator looks pretty comprehensive. Dunno about the claim “Choosing colors has never been easier”. But I do appreciate the plug for Opera! ;-)

I have had a lot of success with Pixy’s Color Scheme Generator[1]. It has many, not all, of the coordinator’s options, and seems to me more intuitive to use. Plus, you can download it so do not need to be online to the Internet to use it. Go to the “more info and help” link to find the download.

The other links look interesting too. Thanks Robin.
