Thanks again for the kind words, Robin. This is a VERY important subject much misunderstood and wrapped in myth. Just because it is on the web does NOT mean you can take it and call it your own. If they have a sign or comment that says you can, then it’s okay, but if they have a copyright notice or sign that says there are “rights reserved”, you can’t have it without permission. It is up to you to make sure it is okay before you take something that isn’t yours.

Wishing that everything on the Internet was free does not make it so. I hope your students are learning this along with all the other fun and fantastic things you teach. It isn’t fun and it isn’t pretty, but it’s the law.

Personally, I have long been fascinated with copyright infringement legal cases and there are some fabulous stories out there dealing with this subject. I’ve had fun teaching this subject in my photography classes, so it was nice to be able to share it on my blog so others can learn what to do when their content is stolen and abused.

    Thanks!
