Robin, nice list of tools. One thing I see missing is just making sure your operating system and software have all of the latest security patches installed. I find spyware doctor and Webroot to do a very good job from preventing infections.

Another 2 freebie antivirus/spyware site is Grisoft & Spybot. (I will try to relocate the spybot download URL). I have used both. I also used the free version of Zone Alarm. These all help without cost. Dare I mention that Microsoft does provide a free spyware app for op systems Win2000 & XP at http://www.microsoft.com. Just enter spyware in the search window.

Two others to consider are Norton Antivirus from Symantec and Zone Alarm(recommended by Kevin Mitnick, the original hacker).

I found that sometimes popup and spyware dominate your computer and prevent you from getting online. I downloaded Registry Mechanic on another computer and installed it on the sick PC. The free version was able to fix my registry with a quick scan and repair. Then I installed and scanned with Norton Antivirus and followed their procedures for completeing the repair on worms and viruses.
